Teaching Artistry

As an educator for young children, I work to make art fun, creative and rewarding as well as connecting kids to ideas from life and the world. I have a particular interest in exploring the natural sciences, environmental justice and children’s place in community. All of the images below were made by K-6th grade students from my classes.

Contact me about teaching in classrooms or for private and small group instruction.

Valley animals

While lessons can be adjusted for various grade levels, these lessons are of particular interest to 1st through 3rd grade students learning about animal homes, habitats and food chains. They pair with my picture book, Over in the Valley.

FRUIT STILL LIFE

Made to pair with my book, Patient for Pumpkins, this lesson connects to historical still life paintings, as well as local agricultural inspirations and healthy eating.

california geology

A personal interest in geology led me to develop this collage lesson based on California volcanoes. The style is inspired by Eric Carle’s painted paper. Students connect their artwork to NGSS 4th grade standards about earth processes.
